Join us as we gather monthly on Zoom to share our experience of the intersection of spirituality, ministry, and recovery.

“Fall seven times,
stand up eight.”

– Japanese proverb

The format is flexible and may include readings from 12-step or other recovery literature, guest speakers, or spiritual practices.

Although this gathering is not affiliated with any specific 12-step or other recovery organization, we acknowledge that many of us are involved in a recovery fellowship. This gathering is not intended to replace those critical support structures, nor to replace the important therapeutic or psychiatric support which many of us include as part of our program for healthy living. It is intended to help us:

  • Support each other in the wholeness of our experience where the One Spirit programs and recovery intersect

  • Maintain our commitment to item #2 of the OSLA Ethics Code: We commit to cultivating clarity of mind and understanding and refraining from misuse of intoxicating/mind-altering substances.

Testimonial

“One Spirit in Recovery is something I look forward to each month. I believe it shows integrity and humility in the organization to offer this sacred space because it acknowledges the work that ministers in training do in recovery and the intersections thereof. More than this, OSIR encourages growth for folx which has the potential to strengthen those qualities and skills required of ministers beyond graduation. (Win, win, win!) I enjoy being surrounded by folx from many different recovery programs who are current students and alumni. There's always something to learn from someone else's experience.”

Rev. Sarah Bowen

Rev. Sarah Bowen is a grateful recovering 12-step champion, animal chaplain, and Dean at One Spirit Interfaith Seminary. She was a typical rebellious preacher’s kid until she finally found recovery in her 30s, initially through the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. As her recovery journey continued, Sarah became a member of Alanon, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Debtors Anonymous, and Nicotine Anonymous. (More than one of her sponsees has told her that she needs a 12-step program for 12-step programs!) Sarah has a long history of holding service positions within 12-step fellowships, including serving on the World Service Board of Nicotine Anonymous. Sarah’s book, Spiritual Rebel was chosen as an “In The Rooms” recovery book of the month and her writing on recovery has been featured in Shatterproof, The Mighty, and mindbodygreen. Sarah is also a columnist for Spirituality & Health Magazine writing on interfaith, interspiritual, and interspecies topics.

Rev. Marshall Hammer

Rev Marshall (she/they) is honored to be part of the One Spirit in Recovery team. She has been facilitating her own fellowship meetings (Adult Children of Alcoholics & Dysfunctional Families) and monthly groups for Survivors of Suicide Loss. Her path to One Spirit has been informed by the spirituality she's found through her own recovery process and through Reiki with animals and people. Marshall believes it is an important endeavor to keep exploring the tripwires that come up for anyone on the ministerial path. She has a kind ear and feels comfort in spaces where everyone benefits from knowing they're not alone.
