Thanksgiving Address to the Natural World

Facilitated by Rev. Emilie Unterweger and Rev. Azaria Carolynn Ulmer

In recognition of the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday we acknowledge both the beauty and intention of giving thanks as well as the painful history behind this holiday. In doing so we will lift up and honor the tradition of the Haudenosaunee people, greetings to the natural world, with “The Thanksgiving Address.” It is offered as a practice to be in greater relationship with nature and the lands we live in. Together we will hear some of the greetings, use them as prompts to re-examine our relationship with nature and then write our own greetings. May it inspire us all to live in accordance with the interconnectedness of all things.

Rev. Azaria Carolynn Ulmer has been a healer all her life.  She comes from a long lineage of women healers who unfortunately did not get the liberty to live there gifts out loud. After the unexpected death of her mother, Azaria was called to remember her gifts. Since then, she has had a love affair with the Divine. Azaria’s deep belief is that we all have an inner guiding compass and when we tune in and align ourselves with this guiding compass our lives can unfold in ways, we could not even dream up ourselves.

Following that guiding compass Azaria got the called to ministry. She is an ordained interfaith/interspiritual minister from One Spirit Learning Alliance. For over two decades as a grief coach, a professional coach through the International Coaching federation, and a mindfulness facilitator. Azaria has been supporting individuals to build resiliency and recreate their lives after loss. Through her individual coaching programs workshops, retreats and trauma informed somatic healing she reconnect individuals to their wholeness.

Azaria is especially passionate about the important role women of color plays in the paradigm shift that needs to happen in our world today. Azaria wants women of color to wake up, claim their gifts, ancestral knowledge and unapologetically bring them to service in the world. Azaria has been featured on the Huffington post, and the big quiet.
