WISDOM OF WIND

Facilitated by Rev. Julie Brooks and Rev. Claudia Ruth Kohn

It can be refreshing and relentless, terrifying and transformative, sorrowful and soothing. It whispers, waves, wafts and can wrench even the greatest of trees. Lao Tzu offered, “Let it go, ride with the wind.” And, for this Gathering, that will be our invitation: to ride with and reflect on our various experiences of wind. We’ll explore and reflect on what and how the wind moves us, how it supports and changes us, and what it may offer to each of us during this season of harvest and abundance.

Join us as we breeze through poetry, ponder the wisdom of tailwinds and tempests, and contemplate the breath of Spirit wafting through the leaves.

Please have a journal, pen/pencil and your imaginations close by.  We’re so excited to whiff with wind alongside you.

Facilitators:

Rev. Julie Brooks

Rev. Dr. Julie Brooks is an ordained Interfaith/Interspiritual Minister, graduating with the One Spirit Class of 2019. She is also an intergenre writer and reverent rambler amongst the sacred and the sublime in Southwestern Pennsylvania.  Julie shares her home with her wife of 27 years, Joellen, their garrulous golden, Griffin, and two fabulous felines, Quaker and Dylan Striped Tiger.  Julie has worked as a clinical social worker, outdoor education instructor, college professor teaching Sociology and Education, and has a rich and textured history facilitating groups and leading worship experiences under the trees, on two wheels and “paddling with poets and prophets” around the Finger Lakes and San Juan Islands.  Julie loved being a Dean’s Assistant with the One Spirit Second-Year 2020 and 2021 Seminary Classes.  And, is thrilled to now be a Dean!  As the Chief Executive Pedaler of sacredcycling.com, Julie is passionately and purposefully pedaling her ministry from the saddle of her bike.  She has a keen interest in Contemplative Practices across the wisdom traditions, and is currently working on setting some of those practices onto the saddle in her forthcoming book, Back to the Hub: InterSpiritual Practices for Sacred Cycling.  Blessed be the wonder of wandering the world on a wheel!

Rev. Claudia Ruth Kohn

Rev. Claudia Ruth Kohn grew up in the suburbs north of Boston, Massachusetts, and moved to New York City upon graduating from university. After marrying and having four children, she moved to Europe and Asia, where she raised her children while acquiring a Master’s degree in the UK, became a Buddhist in Hong Kong, and interacted with many people and cultures along the way. After nearly 20 years travelling, she returned to New York. She has worked as a docent at the Statue of Liberty, managed a soup kitchen in Manhattan, ministered to patients and their loved ones at the Haven Hospice, studied Contemplative Care at the Zen Center, and completed seminary at One Spirit; she was ordained and graduated in 2019. As well as working for the seminary as a dean’s assistant for two years, she competed her chaplaincy training and is currently a chaplain at New York Presbyterian/Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Claudia is certified in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Grief and Bereavement work, and is a Reiki Master Teacher as well as a poet. In her “free” time, she is working on a memoir exploring her work as a chaplain during the COVID pandemic. She is deeply honored and excited to be a Dean at One Spirit, and looks forward to exploring ministry and sacred gifts with each new class.
