No Mud, No Lotus: The Art of Transforming Suffering into Joy

Facilitated by Rev. Eileen Mahoney

It is possible to be happy even while experiencing suffering: we can learn to transform suffering into joy and create beautiful “lotuses” out of the “mud” in your life. During this Gathering, we will explore tools for turbulent times to see that even in the face of all kinds of suffering, we can use mindfulness, guided meditation, imagination, and creativity to explore simple ways to bring more happiness, beauty, aliveness & joy into our daily lives.

We’ll look at:

  • A deeper connection to Source

  • Creating more choices in your life

  • New tools for managing difficult emotions

  • Learning how to respond rather than react

  • Experiencing more joy and freedom

  • Enjoy peace and serenity

Note: All are welcome. No artistic experience/skill is needed.

Rev. Eileen Mahoney

Rev. Eileen Mahoney, ordained at 1Spirit in the class of 2021, lives in the liminal space of thresholds, openings and transformations. As an interfaith minister, writer, expressive arts therapist, and mindfulness facilitator, Eileen lives into her lifelong devotion to seeking the divine in all things. Working with the arts, mindfulness, and spirituality, Eileen loves helping people re-connect with their Spirit, the greening energy of their souls, to live life more fully while addressing life changes, trauma, grief and loss, addictions, aging.

Most recently, she is working with Viriditas, a process of enlivening one’s creativity and Source energy to encourage and support people to live more full, compassionate, alive lives.

Her practice is rooted in elements of Buddhism, Catholicism, Sufism and Recovery. She is an initiate in the Sufi Inayatiyya Order and is also ordained in the Order of Interbeing, Thich Nhat Hanh’s Order of Engaged Buddhism. Her initiate name in the Sufi order means Friend of God and that is how Eileen accompanies people on their journey - as a Friend.

Eileen began exploring spirituality and the arts as a way to heal. Seeing how these elements could be interwoven to help others heal and flourish, Eileen’s began offering what she has learned to others and for 25 years has offered workshops regionally and internationally. The wonders of Zoom have encouraged Eileen to take her individual practice and workshops online.

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Eileen currently resides in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. When she is not engaged in her practice, she can be found riding through the Tyringham Valley on her horse, Molly.
