Discernment for Ministers — A Life-Giving Practice
With Mary Kay Glazer, Interspiritual Minister
Discernment is a core spiritual practice, one that opens space for people to be in touch with their core selves and deepest wisdom, their bodies, their faith/primary communities, cultures, and values, and with the God of their understanding. This practice is especially important for ministers as they seek to know how they are being called into ministry. This workshop will help develop a life-posture of discernment that can support ministers in staying faithful to their call, the God of their understanding, and their core values.

In this workshop…
We will explore the importance of discernment for ministers and a variety of ways for ministers to approach discernment. This will include how to be ready for the in-the-moment discernment that is sometimes thrust upon ministers; possible obstacles in discernment; and practices to support good discernment.
This workshop is for…
Anyone wanting to live in alignment with their faith and core values will benefit from exploring discernment. But, it is especially important for those in public ministry and those who carry a particular concern (e.g., earth care, political activism, spiritual nurture of a particular group). Among other things, discernment for those in public ministry can help focus their efforts, seeing where specifically they are called, knowing that they can never do everything. Discernment can also help with avoiding burnout.
Attendees can look forward to being in the flow of what God/Spirit/Love is calling a minister to; feeling supported in saying yes, even when it is saying yes to something especially challenging; having a network of accountability, since discernment is usually best done within community when possible.
